what are some things to consider when picking a cold storage?

ill try to keep it brief. im very new to crypto and anything related. ive slowly put some $ into crypto over the last year, keeping it all on an exchange. iv occasionally purposefully held back on making certain buys, cause i always hear ‘not your keys, not your coins’ and i wanted to make sure im not investing enough to where id be heart broken if my exchange got compromised n i lost it all.

with crypto now dipping very low in these past weeks, i know the time for me to take risks and make big purchases, is nearing in. i now have my own laptop that i do almost nothing with, its very clean and free of issues, basically brand new. i solely bought it for being able to plug in and access my cold wallet usb. so with that i ask;

• what are some very reputable cold storages that most ppl in the community can come to an agreement, regarding their deserved spot and what they offer.

• is there a specific kind of hardware requirement i should be watching out for. random example, would certain storages only work with a certain kind of usb port?

• are there concepts, or things i should fully understand if im going to delve into cold storages? is anything about them complicated, or is it very similar to exchanges, besides how you have to store your keys safely?

• do any cold storages eventually become dead one day? like what happens if a well trusted cold storage just stops being supported, either through the software the cold storage comes with, or future PCs fail to read certain usb’s?

im sorry if my questions feel stupid. i rly wanna get further into my crypto journey n build my portfolio but i feel very lost and like im not ready sometimes. any advice or tips are appreciated. or if someone can link a good crypto youtuber so i can educate myself further on everything abt cold storages and how they fully work. much love
