WalletConnect Expands to Solana, Launches WCT Token with 5M Token Airdrop

The Solana deployment leverages Wormhole’s Native Token Transfers (NTT) framework, enabling WCT to move across Ethereum, Optimism, and Solana natively—not as wrapped tokens. This enhances composability and liquidity while preserving token integrity across chains.

The Solana expansion comes just weeks after WalletConnect launched WCT on Ethereum via the same NTT system, and follows its original debut on Optimism.

To support the Solana launch, the WalletConnect Foundation announced a targeted airdrop of 5 million WCT tokens to active Solana users. Distribution will occur through ecosystem partners including Phantom, Jupiter, Backpack, and Solflare.

“The 5 million tokens are part of the 185 million WCT allocated for airdrops since September,” said WalletConnect founder Pedro Gomes.

The initiative underscores WalletConnect’s broader push toward multichain interoperability and rewards active community members. By extending to Solana—known for its high throughput and low-cost transactions—WalletConnect aims to deepen its reach into a vibrant user base of traders, NFT collectors, and DeFi users.

WCT, the native token of WalletConnect, is expected to play a role in governance, staking, and protocol utility as the ecosystem evolves.

As competition intensifies among cross-chain protocols, WalletConnect’s integration of native bridging and user-focused incentives may help position it as a core piece of multichain infrastructure in the Web3 stack.
