Altcoin Season Ahead? Key Dominance Metrics Hit Historic Support Zones

These indicators track the market share of altcoins, excluding Ethereum and/or stablecoins, and have repeatedly marked the beginning of major altcoin rallies in past cycles.

Altcoin Dominance (Excluding Stablecoins)

This metric, which measures the combined market share of all altcoins except stablecoins, has dropped to 28.4%—just above its historical support zone between 24% and 25.3%.

In previous market cycles, according to the report this zone has acted as a launchpad for strong altcoin rallies, particularly when Bitcoin dominance peaked and stablecoin inflows signaled sidelined capital.

Whenever this level was tested (e.g., in 2018, 2020, and 2021), altcoins rebounded sharply, often outperforming BTC in the following weeks.

Altcoin Dominance (Excluding ETH and Stablecoins)

The second indicator zooms in on altcoins other than Ethereum, offering a clearer view of the broader altcoin market. This dominance metric currently stands at 18.92%, just above its long-standing support level of 18%.

Historically, the 18% mark has been a critical threshold. Drops below this level have been rare but often preceded periods where Bitcoin rapidly ceded market share to the altcoin sector.

This metric also underscores Ethereum’s dominance within the altcoin space—its exclusion drastically lowers total altcoin market share, highlighting the dependence of the market on ETH.

While these support levels don’t guarantee a breakout, they offer statistically significant signals that altcoins could be nearing a turning point. Alphractal emphasizes that such setups have preceded altcoin seasons in the past, offering potential opportunity windows for investors looking to rotate into undervalued or overlooked altcoins.

The timing is especially critical as Bitcoin holds near cycle highs. Should BTC stall or retrace, historical patterns suggest that capital could rotate into altcoins, igniting broader market momentum outside the top few tokens.
